Apollo Sunshine - “Apollo Sunshine”

February 2nd, 2007 · No Comments

CD: “APOLLO SUNSHINE”—APOLLO SUNSHINE

Rock, $15.98 (list price), Spinart

Basic Story: Amazingly varied first album by a rock and roll band.

Sample: “You can say there’s more to life than this, but there’s always more to life/There’s always too much of everything, and there’s always not enough.”

Review: Apollo Sunshine’s debut album starts off with a reverb-drenched surf-guitar riff, then proceeds to encompass alt-country singalongs, stoner-rock riffing, pop psychedelia, tender Beatles-ish ballads, scorching flat-out rockers, and just about everything else that is part of the rock and roll canon, all overlaid with fantastic melodies. Amazingly, it all fits together beautifully (like Wilco without the electronic experiments) to yield a truly outstanding introductory effort.
